Here is a higher resolution version of the movie
Some stills are below:
A forming star is surrounded by a disk of material and enshrouded in dust. Loose condensations are starting to form in the disk - they will eventually grow into planets.
The dust clears around the star. The condensations are becoming more compact, but there is still a lot of material in the disk.
We zoom into one of the condensations. Vaguely through the dense cloud of particles and dust, we can see a planet growing as it accretes material.
Later, much of this cloud has cleared and we can see the young planet more clearly. However, it is still growing, as objects strike its surface and cause great explosions we see as flashes.
If we zoom into its surface, we see the impact craters still glowing red from the heat generated in the impacts that formed them. New impacts occur all the time, causing great explosions as in the foreground, and leaving craters that also glow red with the leftover heat. |
